Well, I decided to give it a shot and “ferberized” Ryan during his nap today. It was tough at first…but it worked! This could change my life!!

A Fun Story

Our anniversary was on Thursday so Chuck and I packed up Ryan and went to dinner at PF Chang’s. A little way through the meal our waiter came up with a little gift bag. He said that a couple in the restaurant had noticed us. He said they thought we were just the cutest couple with the cutest little boy and so they wanted to buy us dinner…and he hands us the bag which had a $25 gift card in it! How amazing is that?! We were blown away! Apparently they wanted to remain anonymous so we just asked the waiter to tell them how appreciative we were and to let them know how special it was because it was our anniversary. We don’t know if it was someone we knew or strangers, but it really made it a wonderful night.

Whoever you are if you are out there, thank you!

Exorcist Baby

I suppose with babies there are good firsts and bad firsts. Unfortunately, Ryan had his first little stomach bug this weekend. I was holding him while he jumped up and down on my knees and then out of nowhere he projectile vomited all over me. I just sat there in shock, longer enough for the second wave to come around and got it again. I was covered! Luckily, he didn’t seem to be too bothered by the whole thing. He even smiled at me afterward. We both had to go take baths – luckily daddy got home from work just in time to help!

At first I thought it was just a fluke – maybe too much air or something (he has just started to hold his bottle all on his own consistently and sometimes he doesn’t get it up high enough), but a little later when we gave him some water he threw that up to. He couldn’t keep anything down over night except small sips of pedialyte, so I had to take him in to the doctor’s office for their weekend sick hours. The place was packed! I guess something is going around.

As you might remember, we took Ryan to visit his school on Thursday and Friday for a couple of hours each day so he could meet the teachers and other kids. I expected that he would get sick a bunch in the beginning, but I didn’t think it would be that fast! I also was expecting a cold and cough – not vomit and diarrhea! Oh well. You take the good, you take the bad…

On a happier note, Ry turned 7 months old this week. And, Chuck and I celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary. I don’t know if you ever read this, but thanks for the wedding cake, dad!

Ryan also crawls for real now – not just the belly crawl. He mastered that on Thursday, January 27th. Go Rybear!

Hard Decisions

It is amazing how ever single day Ryan seems to change in some way. I can’t believe how physically strong he is already! He has pretty much mastered real crawling now – not just the belly creep/scoot (although he is amazing fast with that!). The other day I left him to play and watch his Baby Einstein and turned my head for a second (Its amazing how many times I say that!). When I looked back, Ryan was over by the stairs with his hands on the second step and his right leg up on the first one. This was about a week ago – again, he is not even seven months old yet – and he is trying to climb the stairs!!! Up goes the gate.

We are trying to decide now what we should do to help Ryan sleep through the night, and in his own bed. The Co-sleeper worked well for awhile but as you can imagine, now that he can stand it isn’t safe. Plus, he prefers to sleep curled up in my arms, so he just crawls out of it when he wakes up and cuddles up in my arms. Which, by the way, is the most wonderful, amazing thing in the whole wide world…to have your little angel crawl into your arms and fall asleep! But it doesn’t make for a good night’s sleep for me. Besides my arm falling asleep, I’m too worried about hurting him to sleep very deeply. Not that I’m a deep sleeper anyway. I think Ryan is that way too, because it seems that no matter how deeply asleep he seems he wakes up at the slightest movement. Actually, he only does that when he is not in my arms. When he is sleeping with me, he sleeps fine!

So what to do? Let him “cry it out” in his room? So many of my friends tell me that is really the fastest and easiest way to handle it, but it feels so against my natural instincts to hear (and see) him suffer like that on the monitor. Plus, with all the standing in the crib, it makes me a little nervous.

I don’t know…any suggestions? I don’t think anyone actually reads this blog, but it doesn’t hurt to ask!!

Growing so fast!

I put Ryan down in his play area today to run into the kitchen for, literally, less then 2 minutes. I heard him crying while I was washing my hands and when I looked over he was just standing there (yes, STANDING!) holding onto the bars looking at me and crying to be picked up. He has stood up in his crib before, but never on such a hard, flat surface with so little support. And now it is just so amazingly easy for him…I can’t believe it! He is going to be walking before I know it!

Another First!

Today Ryan stood up all by himself in his crib! He was desperate to get to me and he managed to reach up and grab the railing. Next thing I knew he was standing there reaching for me. I couldn’t believe it!

He is just over 6 months now and every day he learns something new. He will full-out crawl any day now (he does the “military belly creep” to get around with no problem!), and regularly says, “Ma” and “Mum” now. My little angel is growing up!

On Monday, December 13th I was bathing Ryan. I was trying to get under his arms so I said, “Arms up!” which is one of the learning phrases in his, “My baby can read” videos and books. And you know what? He put his arms up!! So amazing!

Today, I put him in his excersaucer and it has a little book-like toy that when you turn a page it makes a magical noise. I turned it for him to get his attention, and he reached over and turned the page back. It just amazes me that at 5 1/2 months he is learning to understand words and manipulate his environment!

Yesterday I was quietly getting ready for work when I heard Ryan making noise. I peeked out of the bathroom and saw that he was rolled onto his side in the co-sleeper facing Chuck (who was sleeping next to him in the bed). He was just lying there cooing and talking like he was having a conversation with daddy. Every once in a while he would reach out for him and grab his arm or face…it was so precious!

There have been so many firsts since the last post!!
Ryan turned over for the first time on October 22, 2010. Now he can’t be stopped!

He took his first plane ride on October 28th (he was a total angel!) and took his first trip to the Lone Star State!

He went to his first party on October 30th. His cousin, Anna, had a super fun Halloween party! He also went in a hot tub for the first time on this day and loved it!!

He had his very first Halloween and dressed up like a cute little lion (see photos)!

He went to work with Mommy for the first time on November 2nd too – he was a hit!

Ryan is still talking up a storm as well, and I swear he is going to break out into speech any day now! Okay, I know he is only 4 months old, but it sure seems that way!
